The popular "8 glasses a day" rule is a simplification. Actual water needs vary based on body weight, physical activity, climate, diet, and health conditions. This calculator gives a personalized daily hydration target.
General Guidelines
- WHO / European Food Safety Authority:
Men: ~2.5 liters/day (including food water)
Women: ~2.0 liters/day (including food water) - National Academies of Medicine (USA):
Men: ~3.7 liters/day total water
Women: ~2.7 liters/day total water
Calculation Method
A common formula: 35 ml per kg of body weight as a baseline, adjusted for:
- +500 ml per 30 minutes of intense exercise
- +300–500 ml in hot weather
- Pregnant women: +300 ml above baseline
- Breastfeeding: +500–700 ml above baseline
Signs of Dehydration
